Did you know that Google Ads now automatically resizes your video ads using AI?
1 min read
Starting in August 2026, Google Ads will be able to resize the videos in your Performance Max campaigns on its own. The system uses artificial intelligence to create vertical and square versions of videos you haven’t yet uploaded, based on the horizontal version you’ve provided.
In practice, if you’ve uploaded only one video in standard format, Google automatically adapts it to vertical ad spaces, such as Stories, and square ad spaces, without requiring you to edit new versions. The stated goal is to have your ads appear in as many ad spaces as possible, increasing your campaign’s reach.
This can be an advantage for your business, but only if the source video lends itself well to automatic cropping. If you have text overlays, a logo positioned in a specific spot, or shots designed for a specific format, automatic cropping risks cutting off important elements. Fortunately, you can disable this feature by September 4 by contacting your Google account manager or using the dedicated opt-out form.
Our team can check whether your video creatives are ready for this type of automatic adaptation—or whether it’s better to disable it and continue manually adjusting each format. Contact us for a free review of your Performance Max campaigns.
